Here's a few pics from last night....my digital pics from Saturday night kind of got deleted..*glares at wildflower fever*...my camera wasn't working right anyway...I blame that on Redjack! But, as soon as I get my others developed and on disc, I'll post them.

Janis was wonderful as always.
But using my zoom on a 4 megapixel digital camera gives me very grainy photos from the row I was in. Oh well. Hope someone else did better.

Met up with Jenny. She's the only one who understood my "Spence" button. And it even had the Rudie logo on it.

Nice pictures, thank you for posting them.
"Would the real Janis Ian please stand up?"
Lol... :p That made me laugh (sorry Janis, but being a short person myself I am unnaturally attracted to height-related jokes). I honestly understand the problems of being vertically challenged. In the art room at school the shelves are over six feet high and the chairs only add two feet to my height.
I am not going to forgive myself! You all have pictures, everyone except me! *sighs* What can I say? I don't like taking pictures in concert because the brightness of my camera (screen, not the flash) will probably bother the people behind me (and the heads in the way usually bother me. Then when I meet Janis it is usually crowded enough to give me that buzzing nervous sensation, and then I just forget!
Thanks for sharing all your pictures with me, or I swear I would drive myself halfway to insanity and back again!
~Song

Song, I don't think that's as bad as a certain fan in England who just walked near the signing table after a show last year to look at Janis (and smiled at her, I hope) but not go up to say hello! She better not do it at the LRC next month!

Yeah, Sister Rose, Hertz wondered why the "new" sunroof" was so jagged.
If you all look very closely, you might see my fingers above Janis' head. I was the rent-a-easel that held up the Jan-nic poster. Tall people get no respect, they just cover us up... I had a great time, it was my first Janis show, and I thought everyone I met was great (except Redjack, he stole my real name, and he's a Steelers fan, but I'll get over it. Plus, he likes P-Funk, so I guess he can share my name!). Thanks Jenny for the tickets, Rose for the tunes and wonderful friendship, and everyone for their hospitality. :)
Also I enjoyed Dragonlady's everchangin tattoos, Changeling, Mrs. Redjack, Mr. and Mrs. Becky VA (the Tidewater area's welcoming committee for us), Mr. Austin, our new friend Miss Pooh, and of course, JANIS! You are everybit as gracious as I've heard. Keep going, we've got some of those great venues you spoke of here in Mpls, and i'm sure you'll have a receptive audience here. Thanks again, everyone...

The Tidewater Folk Alliance did a great job putting on a wonderful evening of music Sunday night. The opener Mark Austin was terrific. Janis chose him to open for her and I can see why...magnificent guitar player and great songwriter to boot!
Janis put on a fantastic show for an appreciative folk audience. It was nice to hear an audience react to songs like The Great Divide and Last Train. I'm enjoying seeing more than one show in a tour especially at the beginning to see how the set list firms up and the songs get worked out between Janis and the new sound engineer, Greg. This time the set list went like this:
Danger Danger
The Crocodile Song
Love Is Blind
Society's Child
From Me To You
The Great Divide
My Autobiography
I Hear You Sing Again
Here Comes The Night
Last Train
At Seventeen
Between The Lines
Joy
ENCORE: Folk Is The New Black
It was another Rudie reunion with Jenny, BeckyVA and her hubby Tony, Redjack and Mrs. Redjack, wildflower_fever, sister rose, Changeling and myself all together, for some of us, again. Spence was there somewhere and two Gravity Lounge Rudies were also in attendance, Cathy and Janet. Most of us had dinner after the show and then headed off to our various destinations the next morning.
Mark Austin's wife asked me after the show if we all worked for Janis because nearly all of us were wearing some form of the logo T-shirt. I said no we were members of her message board. She said...she talks about you a lot during her shows...you must be very important to her. That made me smile as I was called away to take our ritual group pictures.
On that note I'll end this post and let sombody else have the floor...

We also recruited a couple of new fans (in the bathroom) that should be making their way here soon....:D
I miss everyone already! :(
Bathrooms seem a good place to recruit. You go in, overhear people talking about Janis, and ask them if they know about the board and give them the URL.
Hey, maybe someone should print URL cards to hand out. Complete with the Rude Girl logo and tagline ("Truth is not the enemy"). Or the new web site logo (Pat's drawing).

Chet-that's so funny...I was working on a "business card" that had my name and my "title" was Official Rudie had the website and the my personal email and stuff on it...I was thinking to make it up for the picnic in August...I almost sent it off to be printed but didn't...maybe I will. I thought it would be too geekish...

I wanted to throw my 2 cents in the discussion and say how luckly I feel to have been able to share the stage this past week with Janis. One of the best parts of each evening was to slip back into the audience and watch her work her magic on stage. But I can say unequivocally that Janis is as real of a person off-stage as she is a powerful performer on-stage. Thanks so much for your enthusiastic reception this week...I was blown away! Janis is lucky to have such a community of loyal fans!

Mark,
My sister Becky came up and introduced herself to you after the show. I was at the show the night before at the Birchmere and was telling her how good you sounded. Don't be a stranger.

Or trying to snag that poster? :p
Well if yer gonna worship at someones feet, i can do a lot worse than Janis.
I actually didn't want that pic posted, but since Rose beat me back online, that Poster will be auctioned off in Pittsburgh at the picnic in august, with the money going to the Pearl Foundation.
Our very own Lucille created that little gem and shipped it up to me just in time to get it signed in Virginia Beach.
Spence, Sorry we didn't get a chance to meet you after the show, couldn't find you in the throng of people. We did meet Becky and Tony and had a little bite to eat afterward with them. Wonderful folks and Becky is definately gonna fit right in with the rest of the rabble here.. such a smarta** and i say that with love :)

Oh, sounds like you guys had a great time - how cool. I still miss all of you and can't wait til August. Dragonlady - if you don't get those business cards printed up I'll hit you really really hard with a crutch. It is not geeky at all - I think it is neat. Go for it - anybody gives you a hard time - send them to .....................ah Redjack! Sorry, I'm a peaceful sort!
What a fun idea!!
We should all print those up for Pittsburgh!!
You don't need to go to a printer though. I'm pretty sure there's a template in Word to make your own.
I made bookmarks for JanisMania with the same sort of template. I'm going to redo them for Pittsburgh with the updated album info.

No harm done Rose, gives folks a little more time to anticipate the auction ;)
And we might induct you into the brethern, except you keep stealing the flagship.. ya ain't supposed to pirate from the pirates!
But you did introduce me to another Ben who despite not being a steeler fan, is a very good guy nonetheless. So we'll take that into account when we consider your status.

I particularly like the shot of Janis walking on stage with her logo emblazened on the stage wall. Yep...she's a bit blurry. But it made me think of Bette Midler's comment about "standing so still" on stage. Well...Janis can now show this picture to Bette as proof that she's added some more action to her show!:D

Aye, that be true! I guess I can ease off the "new" Steelers. Hines Ward is tough to say anything bad about. Just as long as we're not talking about the "steel curtain" that robbed my Vikes of a Super Bowl victory in a low scoring defensive game. You'll alright in my book too, man. There are fewer Benjamins in the world these days, so we gotta persevere. Doesn't it always seem wierd when you are used to being called Ben, and then you hear Benjamin? It sounds very ancient, I believe it's a pre-Biblical Hebrew name. ANyway, nice to meet you, and keep on pillaging.
P.S. - I think you said your'e a P-Funk fan, and i wanted to rub it in that I saw Mr. Clinton himself at a Paisley Park (Prince's Minneapolis studio) record event a few weeks back (used to work there and still have enough "pull" to get in now and then). I was pleased to see today that "His Purpleness" new album opened at #1 on BIllboard. It could be 1984 all over again, from a distance he appeared excited. :)

Big P-Funk and Prince fan over here too! Prince isn't only an excellent musician, he is also a clever businessman! With "Musicology" he included it in the price of concert ticket sales [so you had to buy it] and now with "3121" he has the Purple Ticket promotion [ala Williy Wonka] and yet, beyond the hype..it is still an excellent cd! I love it!
What did you do when you worked at Paisley Park?

I was an public affairs liasson, sort of a gopher, if you will, while I was in college. I got to see a lot of interesting people (mostly women) come and go in that timespan. I interned there, and eventually had to move on. The cool thing is there are still some Saturday night parties there that still aren't too hard for me to access now. If your'e lucky, and he's at his Minneapolis home and not in Spain, he'll perform. He remains a huge George Clinton backer and has done all he can to give him exposure, and I think he's done some producing for Clinton over the years. I continue to wish he can continue doing more prevalent guitar songs- he's an amazing guitarist and has frequently recorded his albums while playing nearly every instrument.

Lucky lucky man :) Yeah, Dr Funkenstein is one of my few Must see's when he's in town..and I agree, Prince is an amazing musician. Doesn't get the credit he's due for guitar work. Sounds like you've had an interesting past, i would imagine there are quite a few stories that you've squirreled away! So when's the book due out? lol
As to the Benjamin thing.. when i hear that, i'm usually in trouble :)
