Here it is. It doesn't get much easier than this!

Oriental Slaw Salad

2 1-lb packages cole slaw mix
6 chopped green onions with tops
1 c. sunflower seeds
1 c. peanuts
2 pkgs. ramen noodles (I usually use chicken or 1 chicken and 1 Oriental)
crumbled

Mix all that stuff together.

Dressing:
1/2 c. sugar
1/2 c. vegetable oil
1/4 c. red wine vinegar
1 Tbsp. soy sauce
1/4 tsp. salt (I usually omit the salt)
Seasoning packets from the noodles

Combine dressing ingredients in a jar or container with tight-fitting lid. Shake. Wait 15 min., shake and pour over salad.

It's good served right away, when the noodles are still crunchy, or left-over when the noodles are soft. I have even heated it in the microwave and eaten it warm.

DEEEEE-licious!!!!

I had a dollar for every time I heard "mmmm" over the weekend!! I'd be wealthy beyond belief! From the no-holds-barred dining at the restaurant, to ALL the fabulous food at the picnic, to the stroopwafels dunked in Amaretto, to the pomegranate (sp?) "slushies" at Starbucks! I think "mmmm" was the most often-uttered sound the entire weekend!

And RJ, have I TOLD you how much I'm craving those yummy SHRIMP?!?!? mmmmmm

But I DO need Deirdre to help me! Besides, I'm not sure my fingertips have recovered from the frostbite, yet! ;)

Very simple recipe for those who eat meat...

Take the pit out of dates or buy them without pits
Put almonds inside the dates
Roll one piece of bacon around every date
Fry them in a fryingpan untill the bacon has some colour
Or put them on the BBQ

Hearty and sweet in one. Very nice!

A response from Dar and from Redjack... Now why am I not surprised? ;)
Maybe it can be a tasty sidesnack on your BBQ, Redjack. Just something to nibble on untill the real food comes. Or something to serve with the meat...

Eva

PS: If you really want I have some old shoes for you here. Some are 23 years old and it's time I throw them out now. It's painfull for me... But if you think they are tasty Redjack, then I will be glad to give them to you.

I felt adventurous today, so skinned and boned 7 chicken thighs, cut them in half, wrapped them in bacon, skewered them with toothpicks to hold together, put them on the broiler pan in my little countertop OVEN (not roaster), baked them at 325 for an hour in the middle of the oven...Marcia did not speak for 25 minutes. Then she said the next time I get bacon, it should be the sweet kind, Maple or honey cured. I was thinking the peppery stuff would be nice, so I'll get some specialty bacons next time out, and experiment. (I scarfed my share with just plain cheapie bacon.)

These would make great canapes for a party, sliced across the roll they give 4 or 5 rounds apiece, x 14, would make a nice platterful (about 56 to 60 pieces of decent size). Best served hot...maybe a chafing dish on a buffet.
(Don't throw the bones* in the sink.) :D :D

mmmm I'm thinking maybe we have the next party at your place, Barb! Yum!

Bacon improves the taste of everything, including...bacon. Try it wrapped around scallops or cod loin. I've also taken Andouille sausage, minced it in a food processor and put that around a chicken strip and then wrapped the whole thing in bacon.. It may be a heart bomb, but it sure tastes good.

I keep threatening to take a cooked bratwurst, wrap it in bulk italian sausage, wrap that in bacon and then deep fry the whole thing.

Eva, i'm going to serve those at the next queue and see how my guests react.. Folks don't do much with dates around here , might be a nice signature dish to add to my repetoire.

Redjack, the way I got them here was as a part of a 'tapas' dish. In Spain it's very common that one gets a little snack with a glass of wine etc. that one buys. It's usually something small, like this date. Or a little scoop of fresh tunasalad, or some olives, etc. Just a few bites.

Here in the Netherlands that is not a custom. However we have restaurants here that serve these tapas. You can then combine several of them untill you have an occasional nible with your drink, a small or big meal. Whatever you want. I like eating tapas a lot because of the variety.

If dates don't get used a lot in the US then people might see this snack as very 'exotic' wich can be interesting. I like the mix of fruit and meat a lot. How about trying something with apricots in that chicken of yours, Bat? Just an idea.

If you like variety when dining, you would have been in "hog heaven" at the restaurant last Friday! Bowl, platters, forks and spoons were FLYING as we all shared our goodies! The really weird thing was that no 2 people ordered the same thing! I'd sure like some of those scallops right about now...

That sounds good Karen! I love sharing food. In my family eating is a social thing. Something to do together with loved ones. Sharing eachothers food is kind of the summum of that for us.

In my twenties I used to have a friend who I often went out for dinner with. He* and I used to steal the food of eachothers plates if the other one was looking at the waitresses butt... :D

Eva

*No, it wasn't Redjack...

I would absolutely adore that combination of flavors...apricots go well with darned near anything. (Unfortunately, M can't stand them. Bah!)
One of my favorites is an apricot upside down cake, and it was my older son's fave, too...it was his only birthday cake from the time he discovered it.
We used to fill the upsidedown apricot cups with some extract and light it in place of candles...a very pretty blue glow, and awfully good!
