Well folks, I never thought I would see this day, but I have in fact successfully defended my dissertation for my Ph.D. in Diplomatic and Military History. Just got back from Philadelphia, and aside from the immense sense of relief, I have a KILLER migraine (I knew I would get one) as all the tension in my body gets released. So I am going to bed.

But thanks to all of you for your friendship and encouragement. The JIMB has been a great place for me to "escape" to when I needed to get away from the academic grind. Now it's party time. Bring on the picnic! I am ready!

Congratulations! I can only imagine how many hours you spent hunting down dusty old references references for your dissertation.

But definitely, way to go :) What an accomplishment!

If I had a Ph.D., I'd take that sheepskin to Kinkos, have it enlarged repeatedly at about 4000%, and wallpaper my entire house! Two snaps up and a snap back!

Bows, scrapes, applauds, and salutes.

You know, Oaky, I just got some spam I thought of forwarding to you. It offered degrees of every level in practically any field from "prestigious non-accredited universities", all based on "life experience" (and presumably involving a suitable fee). Why be satisfied with one PhD?

By the way, I believe I'll refrain from comment on anything you may have to say about the Middle East situation.

Thanks to all of you. I am still completely drained, physically and mentally - not that the defense was all that difficult - it's just the relief of finally finishing a 13-year marathon and letting go of all the stress I placed on myself. So we are going out to dinner tonight to celebrate and carbo-load for the trip out to Pittsburgh tomorrow. I can't think of a better way to celebrate than to party with Rudies! I am really looking forward to it.
