I have small hands and I have yet to meet any living adult who posesses smaller hands that I.
However, after Janis mentioned her small hands in Janismania (dvd) I fear that my crown will be taken from me (they do look small).
I look forward to meeting her in the Uk in May in order to see if there is anyone who actually sports smaller hands than me! :D

Racheldiva,
You are in for some tough competition. I was only about 20 feet from the stage when Janis played Annapolis, and I marveled at how small her hands are. I was also bummed that it deprived me of my excuse that my inferior guitar playing skills are due to the fact that my hands are small.

Don't count on it Janis! I'm the same height as you.

Oh yeah... My fingers are really long for my size, despite my palms being pretty small...
I lose.
You win Janis.
:p

What does height have to do with size of hands?
Janis - can we compare hand size at the UK LRC? :p

mine are short but rather chubby....so, I guess I'm out...;)
I only have 4fingers on my left hand, the little one is pretty short to play viola, but since it only has 4 strings, works for me, at least to 3rd position, and harmonics.

I can't get anywhere near an octave on the piano with my tiny hands! Also some guitar chords hurt where you're required to stretch. Oh well!

I have very big hands and can't buy a ring that fits my chubby fingers- they have to be custom made or enlarged.... yet I am an average sized guy:eek:

Big paws here... people always tell me I should play the piano. I usually reply that one needs a brain with two hemispheres for that.

Margay - I know what you mean. I had a few lessons and thought that this is an impossible feat!

In grade school, my piano teacher worried about my small hands. Well heck, I was just a kid! She made me do these finger stretching exercises that I just HATED! Almost gave up piano lessons but glad I kept with it. And, I can grip a pair of drumsticks or timpani mallets just fine, thanks! ;)

sorry David, couldn't resist.
I have big giant hands and feet as well. Neither helps me play and instrument or walk more steadily. Although Peggy's Dad used to say that since my feet were so big I 'had a good understanding'. :)

Big hands.. Big Feet.. and i couldn't carry a tune in a dump-truck. Though a dumptruck does make a pleasing sound when smashing into a concrete jersey barrier..
Fun times. I have big hands and even longer fingers, so I'm glad I got into piano and organ. I can reach an octave+2 (C --> E). What do I win?

My piano teacher had, what my mother referred to as a "half pound of sauseges" for fingers - short and chubby. It always amazed us her mastery of the keyboard in spite of that fact. My mother, also a pianist, has beautiful long and slender fingers as you would imagine a good pianist should - and no I didn't inherit them, unfortunately!

As I said, my hands are large for my size.
My feet on the other hand... I'm embarassed to call them feet. People have asked me how I could balance on them. My preffered size: size three <narrow> childrens.

I have 4 fingers on my left hand AND my right hand...my 5th digit is called a thumb.....
Stubby little sausage fingers here (Elton John style, although I have more hair than him), which aren’t good for anything really.
Never have been able to stretch those little chipolatas across the ivories and trying to play bar chords on the geetar, well...muffled is an understatement.
To make matters worse, I can’t even pick my snout.
I do have very soft hands though:p

I had a friend who could play "Jesus Loves Me" on the piano with her feet - both feet, but only when she was drunk :D I have large hands and average sized feet, but cannot move my toes separately, so was so jealous of her. But I can play the piano by EAR ;)
Lucille, you play the piano with your ears!?!?
My hands are small. Especially my pinky. But unfortunately my hands are kind of chubby. Same goes for my feet (size 36)
Playing the piano didn't really work for me. So I sing. It doesn't matter how small or big your limbs are if you sing!

I have giant hand-shake crushing hands with long hot-dog fingers. It's been so at times I won't let friends see me carrying beer/soda bottles because they laugh how tiny they look in my hands. Sort of like children's toy bottles. Although I was a small baby, my mother said she knew I'd be a big man because my hands were so big and chubby, like a large breed dog as a puppy.:o

Good point, Marcia! My grandmother used to bring my brother and I back to earth with a similar saying. She would say, "big hands, big feet, (then my mother listened in horror, expecting something filthy) big clown!" That's probably true.:D

Abraham Lincoln was once asked how long someone's legs should be. He replied: "long enough to reach between his body and the ground".
Will say the same for my hands more or less. They do what they are called upon to do. As long as they are not called upon to play the guitar like Leslie, Kath, or Janis, which they simply cannot. Though perhaps the problem lies in the brain connected to them?
