So...today HawkSlayer (KS2) calls and asks how my day is going...not well, as I was having techno problems with my phone (it went into Airpane Mode and I couldn't get it back to normal)...so, the self-proclaimed TechTard says to Dr. J..."Have you taken the battery out and put it back in?"...Well slap me upside the frontal lobe and call me silly, NO! While she was on the phone (landline) I followed her Sage Advice and TA DA!!! It worked! Thanks TechnoQueen! jm

Did you try hitting CTR ALT DEL? That usually works for me, if the thing is plugged in anyway! Way to be KS2HS!

So, Joan, what exactly is wrong with your phone being in the airplane mode???
Mine stays that way.

Well Capt. Kerbie absolutely nothing, unless of course you're interested in using it as a phone, or for text messages (like from a friend who is texting about a new guitar), or email.
Since my original post:
my iPod Mini which was having problems after installation of a new battery, got worse after talking to tech support. It now needs to be shipped back to them so they can fix what would not have been broken had their installation video included how to put the damn thing back together...
I'm on my new computer which didn't remember the password to USPS.com and I forgot I had to do one letter in a Cap, and 4 lockouts, two tech supports and over an hour later the issue was finally resolved...
and I plan to avoid my car and ride my bike to the post office to mail the iPod...
Lord knows I'll probably be calling KS2HS/TQ many more times before this day is over!

It is amazing how many "high tech" gadgets can be cured of their ills but shutting them off, disconnecting and reconnecting the power, and switching them on again. Sort of the 21st Century equivalent of giving a stubborn machine a good kick.
Great one, Mary!

Works for me, Dave!

I totally get Eva. Only I'm more of a slammer. I love getting a great bang as parts of things echo thru the mall. And Joan, why not ship the darn thing back UPS? Now that you have the password and all? What's the hotline number? Why I'm I not getting ready to roar out of here and go to work? My "Go to work" alarm just went off on my phone and I'm in a sexy blue checkered old man robe with white stuff on my face, drinking coffee. It's times like this I wish I smoked in the house. I know at least half of you reading this know what I mean. I think it's because I don't want to find out if I have enough gas to get to a gas station. On the bright side, I've always wanted, in a sick way, to press that little button and have someone bring me a gallon of gas. It's like when we used to order Chinese, only I love the smell of gasoline, and it don't got MSG. Oh great! I'm fifty years young and I just felt a new zit... I think it's gonna be a big one too! I love life in the fast lane. Love to all, E

I am totally humbled by this new title! I do feel like it might be a bit lofty for my real skills, but I'll take it!!

That's often called "Whack-it Maintenance". That reminds me of something a good friend said when he worked at Boise Cascade Manufactured Homes here locally. He said that he really like working there and they built really good houses but there was one thing that bothered him. He said that when something didn't fit they'd beat on it with a hammer until it did.
It reminds me of my grandfather. He was born in 1910 and died in 1970. When he was alive they still had mechanical clocks and watches. Every time he repaired one he had some parts left. He had no idea where to put them but the clock / watch ran. Go figure...

That's one of the great anxieties about taking anything apart: putting it back together and finding a leftover part. And it's ALWAYS a part that requires total disassembly of the whatever it is to put it back in place.
Mind, I was once given a chain saw "kit"--someone had taken it completely to pieces for reasons best known to them. So I put it back together....just by placing everything where it seemed to fit and finding the right size bolts/screws. When I was done there were two washers left over (though I know where they "belong"--the chain jammed when they were in place, which may have been the original problem). The thing works just great--or so I'm told. Being in an apartment I really have no need for a chain saw and so gave it away before my wandering mind could find any clever uses for it.

Tell me about it!

Hehehe, Eva, that's how they make money! Many parts aren't actually needed - so it seems - to make a clock/watch run ;)

You think!? I always thought it was because my grandpapa was so clever!
