It was a family affair last night - 13 of us all meeting at the theater.
We all LOVED the movie! It was such a fun movie.
And Johnny Depp....well, I can't imagine anyone else playing that role as well as he does.
.... and ..... I swear I saw Redjack on that ship!!!! LOL!

Well, I haven't seen it, and won't (I may be the only one though). I saw the first one and thought it was a total waste of time. I love Depp but he clearly is doing this pirate **** just for the money (nothing wrong with that, but they ain't gettin' any of mine for junk like this).

Hey if we all had the same taste in movies, music, politics .... whatever .... the world would be a pretty boring place, so that's ok that you don't like Johnny Depp in that role, but I LOVE the character he created.
As "they" say .... "everyone is entitled to their own opinion", right?!!

you are the only person I have heard that had that reaction to the movie! I loved it, and I plan to watch the 1st one again tonight so I can remember stuff when I see the 2nd. I prefer movies that entertain, and I surely was! Can't wait to see the 2nd.

I completely loved the 1st Pirates movie, it brough me back to childhood memories of those old Errol Flynn swashbuckling movies. Depp certainly put his own stamp on Cap'n Jack Sparrow and i don't think thats a bad thing, it would have been far too easy to do a traditional stalwart pirate or to carry the comedy over the top.. as it is, I think Depp found the right balance of both worlds. I can certainly understand that the portrayal may not be to everyones liking, Cap'n Jack is a one of a kind pirate unlike any other before.

There are not many part 2, part 3 etc.s that live up to the original.
My son is 12 and he saw the new movie yesterday. He said it was OK, he was glad he saw it. Not as good as the first one and they differently set up the 3rd movie.
It's all marketing folks. There are lots of great movies that never get seen my most of us.
Matador - just released on DVD for one
The Squid and the Whale - for another
many great Canadian films that we US movie goers never see.
So if you liked the movie, I agree, it is a personal choice situation.
I was at Disneyland last Monday, July 3rd - I know why go THEN - we had friends visiting from out of town and we are only 1 hour away. The newly reopened Pirates of the Caribbean line was really really long. Not too many changes to the new ride but yes Jack Sparrow shows up several times.
I love Johnnie Depp - who else could have pulled off this role. My 2 cents worth of silver.

Perhaps pirate movies will become a trend....in which case another Cap'n and crew will be needed for another franchise. Do I hear any "Aaaarghs" for Redjack and Assocs. for "Pirates of the Janisian (board)"?
