Pheww this is a lot....are these all her cd´s that she has published? Or have I forgotten any? I am asking because I have good collection of Janis work (only need 4 items of the above:cool: ) but want to owe them all. Well or at least know what is missing from my collection:p

there are also:
Souvenirs (an 18 song best of) import released in 2004 in England, Australia, and Japan)
Live on the Test (released in England) most is from the 1976 Old Grey Whistle Test, and it includes a couple of live cuts from the Breaking Silence era.
The very rare "Got to Get Up" with Claire Bay is on that one.
There's also "At Seventeen" 1991 that Janis indicates is an illegal collection of all of the '70's and 80's 45's that were put out. I think production was halted on those. There's also a "Best of" from 1992, released in Australia and Japan.

Oh, and the first four on Verve were never released separately on CD, but are on "Society's Child, the Verve Recordings", the "Snowbird" track is omitted from "Who Really Cares"

There's also a live double album recorded in Australia and Japan, which fortunately I was able to get here in London.
But it's not available on CD because the masters have been lost by the record company. Janis confirmed this at the UK LRC. Such a pity because it has some great versions.

There is also a gold pressing of "Breaking Silence". Two actually--one legitimate, the other apparently a pirated Asian version.
And of course there are different incarnations of practically all of Janis' CDs, since most have been remastered at least once. Sometimes with a dramatic improvement in sound I might add. CDs remastered and remastered after "Working Without A Net" generally have one live track added to the original list.
How on earth do studios manage to "lose" masters? I know it happens--I just can't believe it.
Wasn't there also an album entitled "My Favorites" or something like that that was assembled by CBS without consulting Janis at all? Or would that be "At 17"?

....and so the list get´s longer and longer, a good thing. You guy´s are a walking encyclopedia, thanks a lot.
I guess that Janis then never has done any christmas songs album????
Wandering also since she has done scores for tv and movies if there are any of those around. (Could it be an idea to collect them all in one cd sometime???)

Janis did the soundtrack for the Japanese movie "Virus", which pops up on eBay now and then. Not sure if it is available on CD though.
She also recorded at least one Christmas-related track "Child In A Barren Land" which was on an anthology album. Alas, I do not know the title.
Also there's "Emmanuel" on The Carols Of Christmas II: A Windham Hill Collection
(August 12, 1997)
and
"Winter Fire" on Simple Gifts - A Windham Hill Collection
(September 26, 2000)
both available from Amazon.com

"A Child in a Barren Land" Precious Child, CD 1992
there's also "A Thousand Years" which is on one of Janis' '90's subscriber series tapes. Those are a couple of other holiday songs.

Our pressing of Breaking Silence is the same as the gold pressing, btw.

The "breaking Silence" remaster sounds the same, has 2 bonus tracks, is still in print, and sells for way less than the gold ones which are almost impossible to find!

Very true, Kathleen--and to you folks who don't have the remaster, run don't walk. The difference in sound quality and presence is astonishing. I've bought my share of "remasterings" from 60s-70s artists that really didn't sound much better than the "originals", but in this case, I found myself wondering more than once if it was truly the same recording--the improvement is incredible.

An excellent List of vinyl and CDs. Some you've listed, such as "Remember", or "My Favorites" have never been released on CD, nor have the Verve LPs ever been released as separate CDs. The original question was: How many Janis Ian CDs are there.
Kathleen Brogan

Live on the test and Old grey whistle test are the same thing , and it's a CD.
Kathleen Brogan

"Records" was the perfect way to list them!

Tanks Kathleen for pointing out about the Old Grey Whistle Test and Live On The Test as being the same thing.....was not quite sure, thought maybe there ws a bonus track on oneof them and also clarify that Remember and My Favorites are the same record. Stupid question from me:p but do have a shop with Janis items or have a Janis web page?:o
Thanks for your comment Eva and Saxman I agree with you.....but on the other hand what she has done is a lot and she is still at it. And much of her work is timeless or better yet classic, so you can go back to her music again and again and you always find something new in her songs.

do they take in to concideration the cds that people take at a Janis home party the ones that are generated for the Pearl Foundation ? i think not so i say again or ask again Fact i agree with is that there are soooo many to count. and i hope everyone buys them all the ones that might help a cause. thats my view . the answer is there are lots that i would like i like the ones that are living room concert cds . some day some day soon i will have one would this count as beeing in the total count . i dont think that there is an answer to this question . how many cds are there . i think the question might be how many do i need in my life to get me till tomorrow

The idea of a jazz album is great. Some of my favorite recordings of ours are from the "jazzier" albums like Miracle Row. This of course is odd to me, because my musical tastes tend to flow more toward acoustic folk purist type stuff. But then, good music is good music, regardless of the genre we label it as.
I would love to see an album of Janis Ian's favorite Janis Ian songs....but then how would you choose?
When you come right down to it, I would like to just see more Janis Ian albums, plain and simple.

No, "Remember" (pressed in Japan) and "Janis Ian Live in Japan & Australia" (pressed in Australia) are the same, except the latter has 3 additional songs and "New York in the Springtime" has a spoken introduction. "My Favorites" is another greatest hits album. What the three have in common is that they have never been released on CD, just vinyl. I also just remembered "Golden Archives Series" an MGM greatest hits from the first four Verve albums. Vinyl release only.

Ok there are some very good news about how many more "I didn´t know they excisted" Janis songs that are out there, I like that.
But I particulary like your future projects Janis, expecially what I have coloured. That lime coloured one got me wipeing my tears off my eyes and I needed to buy another computer.(they dont seem to work well after a "wet mix."

I think both of these are great projects.
Can we suggest material for the COVERS? I have a bunch in mind!
on Jim Brickman's album Visions of Love, there is also a "duet" with Janis of Getting Over You.
Haven't heard this version, so don't know how different it is.

An eBay seller from Israel is currently offering what purports to be a live DVD of Janis "performing her 60s-70s masterpieces" (item #180018074109). No other details are provided. It may well be that this person just has a Janismania or Club Cafe DVD, but since the item is identified only as "Janis Ian DVD" I'd be careful. Unless Janis has given permission of course, in which case, let the good times roll!
