Well it's a step in the right direction, and I don't have to rely on Internet Cafes any more, (unless I want to) but I'm back and I'm really happy to be using MY OWN LAPTOP :) It's a refurbished Compaq with superfast Linux (Ubuntu) and I love it. For some reason my dongle doesn't work at home yet, and I can't yet work out why. I think a visit to the Phone Shop might just be an idea...

Gee, if you had only asked, I have one sitting around you could have had for the cost of postage! It is a c. 1996 Compaq Armada something or other, with 100mhz processor, 1.1 Gigahertz hard drive, and I believe 64 megs of RAM (with a 28.8 dialup modem and floppy disk drive!).
Believe it or not it's a halfway decent word-processing machine (or was the last time I used it), running Windows 98. Weighs about 20 pounds with the (dead) battery and add-on CD-ROM deck, but don't we all need a bit more exercise?
That used to be my work computer, though I can't recall accomplishing anything of any significance with it.

They don't pay you enough to actually achieve anything... that should be done strictly on your own time!

Dave, that was really sweet of you, but I LOVE Ubuntu! This one's setting me back £70 and is marginally better than my Packard Bell was. (That went missing at the repair shop and I'm hopping mad about that) and now I have my own wireless dongle I can use it anywhere except at home. I need it for work anyway, but I will be even more exstatic when I can get the Internet at home. Using my phone is all very well, but it doesn't do half the things I want it to do. And what's more it comes with its own personal valet!! :)
