Okay, so Randy told you what a beautiful mountain valley town we live in, but unfortunately we are surrounded by rivers. Nearly 3 continuous days of rain have our 15 foot creek wall nearly inundated. Pray the forecast is completely wrong! It's getting more than a little deep and downright scary. We've already seen millions of dollars of damage in the area and they've called for mandatory evacuations in the next town above us. Gonna be a long night!

My thoughts and prayers are with you, Leslie. I hope the forcast is wrong and you don't get all that horrible rain. I also hope that you do not have to evacuate.

Leslie,
Betty & I are praying for you and the people of Honesdale... just know if you need a dry roof for a couple days we have a vacant apartment (Unfurnished) but we can make it work... It's dry and clean.... We are about a mile from the river and on high ground.
Best to you and yours

Reports on the Susquehanna, Delaware and Lehigh rivers are not good... It's possible that flooding might equal or pass what was experienced two years ago and that was bad.... Our prayers go out to all within the threatened area....
Best wishes

So sorry to hear that Leslie. I saw the weather radar and it looks like the tri-State area is being swamped as well as the whole eastern seaboard of the U.S. Hope it drys up very soon for ya. We're just getting a sliver of the system up north here.
Prayers for you.

Leslie, I'm hoping for the best possible outcome for you and your family, and the people of Honesdale.
If you end up staying in Randy and Betty's unfurnished apartment, my husband Steve and I could help with providing household goods and furniture for you. (We have tons of extra stuff; we're packrats!)

Sorry to hear that, Leslie! My prayers to you and all concerned.
Oy Leslie!
Hope you don't need to get evacuate. How ironic. You're getting it from below, I'm getting it from above.

for all the prayers, but keep 'em coming.
We were awakened by the fire department at 6:30 this morning. They were going door to door announcing a voluntary evacuation. We won't leave until we have to, but if I'm away for awhile, you'll know why. I'll keep you posted.
Ben, we might need that ark after all!

Rudie power coming your way. If I could, I'd drop by with a bundle of heavy gauge garbage bags!
From a co-worker's experience with the recent Northeast floods... double bagging photos and digital media seemed to work ok. He did that for the 2nd flood in his house and the stuff just floated but didn't get damaged. They put a lot of stuff in GladWare with the same result... floating and no damage. Their furniture didn't fare as well, but, as he said, that was "just stuff"

OK.. I just couldn't wait. I had to hear their voices.... and they are safe thank God. The water is starting to recede and they didn't have to evacuate....but the dam still poses a threat to them and we're all hoping it holds. Keep the prayers coming and I will keep close watch and keep everyone updated.
To everyone who's in this downpour, please stay warm and dry. Our prayers are with all of you.
Hugs,
Kath & Lucille :)

and thanks for the wishes and prayers. Things are a little calmer after and actual afternoon of sun (though the forecast is severe sporadic storms right through Saturday). Both dams are still holding, but one is expected to go and the one below it was scheduled for repair this summer. They have opened the flood gates on the lower dam to relieve pressure from the storm, but aren't sure it can contain the surge when the other dam goes. However, since the creek is about 5 feet lower, hopefully we can handle the water rise from the potential backflow. I know it's all kind of technical, but I imagine that other folks who live near water might understand.
We took all the instruments to the attic and left everything else downstairs. :D I'm no fool. And since I'm in a soft cast, I'm not hauling furniture upstairs. Hope all the other Rudies in the area are high and dry. How ya' faring Hoops?

Glad to hear the prognosis is better than it was, and that you're more prepared. Things lightened up today here as well (it was so good to see the sun!) Dave and I live on high ground, but a lot of our friends are very scared about the predictions of flooding in Harrisburg, and we did have water restrictions here yesterday. And here I'd lulled myself into believing this only happened in years when we had too much snow...that's Global Warming for ya...keep praying, everyone! I know I will!

Hard to imagine that so much of the country is in the middle of a drought--the world's a bit off-balance, I fear. Hope you can stay dry, and if you have to get out, go! Wrap the instruments in garbage bags (no, they won't be offended!) sealed with duct tape or knotted shut and they should be safe from practically anything as long as the attic stays where it belongs.
Fingers crossed for you here in one of the areas that's been rather on the dry side.
Glad you got a little reprieve Leslie. Here's hoping it comes back again!

Glad the situation has improved some for you Leslie.
I understand the anticipation you had, since we have a dam right behind us and the flooding here in the New England last month was a very frightening experience to those downstream here as well! Luckily we were not affected as bad as initially predicted.
I hope the worst has passed for you and for ponytail, Hoops & Rickster as well!
The rain in the Northeast has been incredible this year!
And then there's poor Dee going through his leaking roof problems as well!
DaveM is right that it's hard to imagine that some areas are in such a state of drought, when we've had our share of way too much rain!
Good luck to all - another rainy day here too - remnants of what you all have been receiving, but nothing serious.
I think we all deserve some SUNSHINE now, don't ya think???!!!!

It's hard to believe, but we're in our second day of sunshine here! I'm deliriously happy. :D
Now if only the ducks would come back so I can feed them...it was too much rain even for them!

but it's been a long couple of weeks. Yes, we escaped relatively unscathed. I think I reported earlier that the water hit the top of the wall (about 20' above normal). It has taken this long to get down close to normal levels. They have finally lifted our water boil advisory, but we continue to boil until we get a new set of the fancy special-order water purifiers that we use.
I feel badly for folks in the northern part of the county, many of whom are still cut off, and for the folks in Hawley, which suffered heavy damage. Many folks are still out of their homes, and some will be for many months. The county lost approximately 26 bridges so getting around can be quite difficult, but we're thankful there weren't more lives lost.
We're also thankful for the prayers. Hopefully things will return to normal shortly.
Leslie
