I have a mac and got apple care to go along with it.
I paid $0 for the replacement when the CD drive went out.

Which cost you how much for how long? I have no knowledge really of the Mac other than the fact that I've always considered the initial outlay for one to be prohibitive to me personally. I also don't usually purchase any extended warranties offered for whatever by whomever because I know that -usually- they turn out to be a waste of money. Obviously there are exceptions to that as your situation clearly points out,.... assuming that "apple care" is similar to if not exactly like or the same as an extended warranty.
For the longest time if you wanted security and freedom from trojans and viruses the way to go was with a Mac or a linux machine. Times are a changin' though and viruses, trojans, root-kits, etc. are showing up for both platforms now with increasing frequency.
I'm not knockin' the Mac . . . only passing along the humor(?) of others.

It was 3 years for around $120. Not bad.

I always get Apple care when I buy iPods...sometime during the lifetime of that extended warranty I have to have the iPod replaced due to a hard drive failure or some other similar such issue. It is the only extended warranty program I have ever found that is worth the money.
