Morning all,

I went to look at some new member profiles and found that for some reason I only can see the first dozen profiles or so under any letter on the members list... This seems different then it used to be. An example when I went to look up new member GracieFletcher I could only see the first 12 G's.... Any suggestions?

Thank you

R. from Pa

Looks to me that all the G's are being displayed. Could be that the great and powerful Oz (John) saw something in Gracie's information trail that pointed to an auto-registration bot, sock puppet or other, or perhaps she simply chose not to display her profile.

Doesn't look broken to me.

Outside of that, way down at the bottom of the page are links to additional pages. Lower right hand side.

Gracie just came and went. I dont see her profile at all?

I did check her profile (when it was still there). I usually do the same with any newcomers. However, as if often the case, she had no details. I don't think she ever posted either.

If she was a bot, then "bots" are getting pretty creative giving themselves human names. LOL

Mmm, something else ... it might be just something that only bothers me, but ...
I think it is strange that newcomers are welcomed just by signing in and haven't even post a message ...
I think it would be better to welcome a newbie when they actually post and give them a respond on that first message ...

THANK YOU for mentioning this, Marjan.

Maybe I'm mistaken, but it seems that standard Internet protocol is for people to at least post an introduction, or introductory post on message boards first.

I'm sure they're started with the best of intentions, but some of the Welcome threads have left me feeling ... well, overwhelmed and somewhat uncomfortable. I can’t imagine that if people had begun bombarding me with foolishness about pirates – who to be wary of (even if in jest) or not – when I first came to the message board (circa 1999) that I would have stayed around long.

Geez, Dee....did you turn normal on us or something? Though I must say that if I had been bombarded with inside jokes when I first arrived here, I might have been a bit uncertain about the board as well.

Mind, I am now quite proud to be numbered among the pirates, and really do hope we get to do some pirating someday. Why should the Republicans have all the fun?

Never really crossed my mind too much, I don't read every thread on the board..i tend to steer away from the political threads..i have enough stress in my life as is. So in a lot of cases i just assume that folks who are being welcomed have posted somewhere and now theres just an official welcome thread. I'm also not in the habit of checking profiles which would indeed tell me if someone has posted yet or not.

As to piratical nonsense, point taken.

Mmm, okay, maybe you're right. I did indeed introduce myself when I first started posting, but it took me a couple of days to do so after registering. The threads were intended to make the newbies feel welcome, that's all. As you may have noticed, some have responded positively to those threads. Anyway, point taken, I will (mostly :p) refrain from doing so in the future.

I've never been able to quite figure out what normal is Dave, but if it's the status quo then zzz. LOL

I kind of assumed that people have been reading a few threads before they started posting themselves. So they would be a bit 'used to' the sillyness among us.

As much as it dismays me....;) I agree with Eva 100%... I doubt anyone with to stiff a sense of humor would stay here for very long in any case....

I have to say I lean on the side of letting new boardmembers introduce themselves first before bombarding them, but just do what feels natural. I don't feel there should be any rules about it...life is too incumbered with rules and regulations as it is.

Now, that I have put in my two cents.... ...wasn't this thread about not being able to read certin profiles? I have not noticed the problem, but I would think John would have an answer........
