Adobe planned a fix for Flash Player 10.1.82.76 (+earlier) for Sept 28.
Adobe apparently made it for today, Monday Sept 20, just searched - no fix yet [11:45a.m. = CET > "+1" time zone].

*note: the above 'square' is a beta version, some apps may not function anymore - install on your own risc!!!

Hoping for the fix to come ASAP ...
Will be great relief for Rudies to go to e.g YouTube watching videos :=)

Will this fix the dreaded "traffic jams" that turn high speed internet into snail mail? Or is this addressing another issue.

Attackers exploit additional zero-day vulnerability - Sept 14

http://www.h-online.com/open/news/item/Attackers-exploit-additional-zero-day-vulnerability-in-Adobe-Flash-and-Reader-1078297.html

IMPORTANT. Do NOT (!!) install EMET (as mentioned) > most of your apps might not run anymore!

Just update your Flash Player to its latest version (e.g. Windows = 10.1.85.3).

Uninstall older version first!! .... (sorry Rudies, if I sound like 'Rudie-know-it-all' - not at all, just this is familiar to me).

Update url here --> click on 'released' > scroll down.
Adobe closes hole in Flash Player - Sept 21

http://www.h-online.com/security/news/item/Adobe-closes-hole-in-Flash-Player-1082852.html

Or go to official Adobe-DL-Site (sorry, is homepage, can't get English DL-site > I will be directed to German site!), just click on 'get Adobe Flash Player' pic right hand side.
http://www.adobe.com/

Those using Adobe pdf-reader:
Gotta wait for update till Oct 4!
Why not use e.g free "Foxit Reader" instead ?! You will like it. :D

DaveM, Flash Player is for displaying videos, if your DSL-speed is not the fastest (even 6000 = DL-stream 6000kB/s, upload = 576kB/s) you might experience some 'lack' in uploading. Meaning, video might not be displayed 'smoothly'. With higher DSL-speed (e.g. 16 000 = DL-stream 16000kB/s, upload 1024kB/s | VDSL 16000+ = DL-stream 10000kB/s, upload 800-1000kB/s > varies!) no probs. This goes for real-time in particular.

As to other questions please read this:

I have cable internet that is supposed to be 16mbps. However, the local cable company is noted for offering more than it can provide. I got faster YouTube downloads at my old address with Qwest DSL at 1.5mbps.

I did get the new plug-in today. So far it has crashed once, but....perhaps merely growing pains.

DaveM,

I am trying to the best of my understanding (technical English + English in common + the fact that my IT-knowledge is limited (!!!)):

I have cable internet that is supposed to be 16mbps.
16mbps = 16000kbps = DOWNLOAD-stream/speed!, 1.5mbps = 1500kbps = DOWNLOAD-stream/speed (when DL big files TO your PC, THIS is crucial).

Now what's crucial in watching streaming videos is the uploadspeed/stream(which is totally different from the DLstream/speed!) & always lots slower!:

watching a video in realtime (e.g. youtube), the uploadspeed will 'show' in 'smoothly' displaying video (if upload too low then you will get a - what you call 'crash', meaning 'sudden stop' for maybe 2-3 seconds, then on with the vid ???).
In other words:
The faster the upload-speed, the smoother (no 'sudden stops') the vid will be displayed.

Did you ask your provider (local cable company) what your actual upload-speed
is ? If not, then do so!

the local cable company is noted for offering more than it can provide.
Yaya, typical for providers, they always promise more than they actually are able to provide. Most of them, at least. -> 'promises, promises'.

Another point is the traffic > the more users uploading ( = watching whatever by using realtime), the less speed is left for others!

I got faster YouTube downloads* at my old address with Qwest DSL at 1.5mbps.
* it is UPLOAD, not download!! see above.
This might well be. Qwest probably has more power (meaning - able to provide what they offer ) --> if you go better with latter provider, why not stick to that one ? -> Qwest may not be frequented (by 'just' wanting to sell contracts) that much as your other company, which doesn't seem to me to be a quite so 'to be relied-on' Co.
('promises, promises').

I did get the new plug-in today. So far it has crashed once, but....perhaps merely growing pains.
Would you please be kind enough to put it in slighly other words for me for better understanding ... What plugin ? How did the crash show up ? what do you mean by 'merely growing pains' ?

[I]Ask your provider what actual UPLOAD speed you have (in combination to your download speed) !!!

note: you should be able to 'look into!' your router (W/LAN), by login to the homepage of your provider. (should also be possible in mac to see configuration++ to go sth like > start > ..... > type in [WITHOUT the '..'!] 'cmd' > press enter > type in 'ipconfig /all' (mind empty space after 'ipconfig') > enter: you will get displayed everything about your DSL-router/LAN +++).

My O/S > all terms in German. pls correct tech mistakes - no warrenty!!!

Now I'm confused. Not your fault....this tech stuff just gets the better of me sometimes.

My internet service is supposed to upload at 1mbps.

The Adobe Flash plug-in brought up a notice when it crashed. It only happened once, so perhaps it was just "one of those things". Anyway, I am not worried about it.

For whatever reason, Qwest DSL is not available at my present location. I can get their phone service and dial-up internet, but not DSL. Believe me, if something else was available, I would take it.

DaveM,

My internet service is supposed to upload at 1mbps.

1mbps = 1000kbps, should be alright for smoothe 'sailing' lol.
I got DSL > upload = 576kbps, which is not so 'pleasant' sometimes, but ok.

note: some videos tend to crash in a way ... there is another reason for it. Wish I knew ... best is to 'ignore' such videos, and hope it is not Janis ... I would wait uploading Janis-vid for a million years :D

may have been 'one of those things'.
1. Did you DL from Adobe HP "Flash Player Uninstaller" (the LATEST!) and run it
2. Did you clean your PC (paths incl., doing a PC-search on "macromedia;abobe;flash player") BEFORE installing the new version ?

Qwest DSL is not available at my present location. I can get their phone service and dial-up internet, but not DSL.

Well, if you say your internet service is supposed to upload at 1mbps - how do you know ? - If you're sure about this you wouldn't need to contact your provider, would you ?

I did run a speed test for both upload and download speed and it looked pretty good. Of course, that is relative depending on how far away a signal is coming from.

I did run a complete "cleaning" on my system, but not until after the Adobe Flash plug-in had installed itself. May try removing it, cleaning, and reinstalling.

I never had the slightest trouble with Firefox until they developed the current "plug-in container" configuration. Now, if Firefox doesn't crash, the "plug-in container" will. Usually I get a warning of this in the form of Firefox basically freezing for several minutes. I have been unable to find a way to get it to "unfreeze" or to head off the crashes.

Fix schmix. I get so weary of these endless updates.

So, I have just removed Flash Player and Reader from my computer entirely then went and got the latest versions of both and installed them. End of story. I hope!

hiya daveM,

Try 1st the user board hints below. then read & try troubleshoot (url below).

uninstall, clean, reinstall - always good! Read troubleshoot below!!

** there is always a 1st time :=)

I don't know anything about Firefox. Did a search for you:

Troubleshoot FP | Mac:

http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/865/cpsid_86551.html

Tech boards:

° 'sometimes it helps to delete profile in Firefox

° FF 3.6.4 + FlashPl 10.1 > no problems!!!
(06/24/10)

° No video YouTube! -> FF3 .... --> caused by Add-on "No script" (FF)
solution: allow FF-plug-in "No scipt" 'ytimg.com' ( = URL Youtube!).
(March 2009)

should not AFAIK - depends on what cable is being used by your provider (your area) >
if they use fibre-cable is fastest U can get nowadays. Don't know about your area.

good luck!

I'm fairly sure there is at least SOME fiber optic cable in the infrastructure here. Then again, Internet providers in this area seem to have an unofficial slogan: "bringing America into the 1980s".

I believe I'll try a complete clean and reinstall and see if that helps.

Hehe, would like to be taken back a little, these crazy updates in everything ... way too fast for me to keep up with.
Certainly it had to be DSL high-speed and all the comfort we have nowadays ! :=))

let me know how it worked, wish you the best of luck :D
